2012 Grant Winners

The Foundation would like to formally announce the winners of the 2012 Freehold Township Education Foundation’s William J. Setaro Building Blocks for Innovation Competitive Grants Program:

Lisa Force, Media Specialist for the Clifton T. Barkalow and Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle Schools, was awarded a $5,000 grant to fund her “Student Response Systems” program at both middle schools.
Alejandro Batlle and Tami Campfield, Physical Education teachers at the Laura Donovan School, received $2,500 in funding to support their “Wellness Lab” initiative.
Dana Turner, Language Arts Teacher at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School received $2,500 in funding to support her “21st Century Classroom” initiative.

In 2012 the Foundation received 12 innovative and creative grant applications. The selection process consisted of a nine member committee deliberating both individually and as a group. Members of the committee represented various schools in the district and stakeholder groups such as district administrators, teachers, parents, and trustees. Each member of the committee individually evaluated the applications before meeting on three occasions to deliberate as a group. A new element to the selection process this year was the inclusion of finalist interviews at one of the three meetings. Although the winning applications are distinct and represent different funding areas, they all share common characteristics that the committee felt best reflected the intent of the grant.

In addition to the grant monies awarded, the FTEF Corporate and Private Grants committee is available to support teachers who wish to apply for grants by helping match teachers with appropriate grants and providing assistance and review during the grant writing process.
