One of the missions of the FTEF is to bring corporate and private foundation grant money into the schools to enhance the education of all district students. The foundation matches teacher program ideas with existing corporate and private grants and assists the teachers in developing effective grant proposals.
As of the Fall of 2011 the Corporate and Private Foundation Grants Committee has helped teachers win the following competitive grants:
Target Corporation
- $700 to Eisenhower School for a field trip to Liberty Science Center
- $700 to Applegate School for a field trip to Ocean County College Planetarium
- $700 to West Freehold School for a field trip to The Ocean County Planetarium
- $2000 Arts Grant to Eisenhower School for a Latin Dance and Storytelling Program for the Spanish Classes
- $2000 Arts Grant to Catena for their School Play Production
Lowes Corporation
- $4500 Outdoor Classroom Grant for Applegate School
During the 2011/2012 school year, the grant committee has also worked to help teachers create projects on DonorsChoose.org. Since September, eight classroom projects have been funded mainly with the support of our parent community. Projects that include; a listening center, books on CD, sight word center materials, a document camera, an X-Box Kinect, and a boom box. DonorsChoose.org is a wonderful community where teachers can ask for and receive directly the tools they need to be more successful in the classroom thereby enhancing the lives of our children.
